The Bob Moog Foundation Brings Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool Aboard Jam Cruise to Grand Turk Island

March 3, 2026 (Asheville, NC) — The Bob Moog Foundation set sail aboard Jam Cruise on a mission to bring Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool to the island of Grand Turk. The cruise ship MSC Divina departed Miami, Florida, on Saturday, February 7th, and the educational day of service was held on February 9th. Enriched instructional content was shared with 80 elementary school children at Eliza Simons Primary School. The students learned about the science of sound, from vibrations to waveforms, in an interactive setting, applying their knowledge by playing a variety of Moog synthesizers and theremins.

The mission was made possible by a grant from Positive Legacy, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arm of Cloud 9 Adventures. Positive Legacy integrates music and service to benefit people and the planet, while transcending cultural boundaries by attending to the needs and aspirations of the communities where Jam Cruise docks.

"I have helped organize and have attended more than 40 days of service with Positive Legacy. Bringing the hands-on teaching of Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool to the students on Grand Turk was one of the best experiences to date,” noted Russ Farr, Positive Legacy Board Member. “Watching the excitement and wonder the kids had while playing with the instruments was beyond words and warmed every heart that saw it.”

While on board the MSC Divina, the Bob Moog Foundation hosted two Synth Playgrounds for the Jam Cruise attendees. Visitors were invited to learn about and experiment with synthesizers and theremins, along with hard-to-find Moogerfooger processing pedals.

Jam Cruise is a five-night, floating music festival that celebrated its 22nd year in 2026. It brings together dozens of bands and artists across multiple stages for nonstop performances and collaborative jams at sea. This year, the event departed from Miami and sailed to tropical ports, including Grand Turk and Ocean Cay in the Bahamas. Jam Cruise has become a sought-after, environmentally conscious creative hub where music, culture, and camaraderie converge.

“The Bob Moog Foundation was excited to bring Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool science of sound curriculum to the wonderful students at Eliza Simons Primary School on Grand Turk Island,” said Michelle Moog-Koussa, Executive Director of the Bob Moog Foundation. “This experience was a prime example of how our enriched educational program inspires young students from a variety of backgrounds and learning styles. We are deeply grateful to Positive Legacy and Jam Cruise for making this opportunity possible.”

Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool, a program of the Bob Moog Foundation, introduces young students to the science of sound through hands-on experiences with electronic music instruments. Designed to spark curiosity and creativity, the 10-week program blends lessons in pitch, waveforms, frequency, and circuitry with opportunities for students to explore real synthesizers and sound-making tools. By connecting music, technology, and STEM concepts, Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool helps learners understand how sound works while encouraging experimentation and self-expression. Since 2011, the curriculum has been introduced to over 40,000 students.
