UJAM Launches Retrocraft, a Creative Multi-Effect Plugin for Vintage Character and Sound Design
All-in-one creative processor for adding saturation, degradation, tape and vinyl character, movement, and ambience to any kind of track and mix.
Berlin, Germany, June 24, 2026 — Following the release of its vocal processing plug-in Voxcraft, UJAM introduces Retrocraft, a creative multi-effect plug-in designed to bring vintage character, analog-style saturation, and lo-fi texture to instruments and vocals through a single streamlined workflow.
In today's music, adding character through saturation, degradation, and vintage coloration has become an everyday task, but achieving those sounds often means combining multiple processors across a complex signal chain. Retrocraft was designed to streamline that workflow, bringing together analog-inspired amp coloration, vintage playback emulation, speaker modeling, modulation, instability, and ambience effects in a single creative environment.
Whether adding vinyl-inspired texture to a beat, transforming vocals through vintage playback and speaker effects, or pushing instruments from subtle warmth into heavily degraded textures and experimental sound design, Retrocraft makes those sounds accessible in just a few clicks while remaining fully customizable. Complementing its core character-processing engine are six creative effects modules, including LoFi, Modulation, Instability, Delay, Reverb, and Chop, alongside 100 production-ready presets that provide immediate inspiration for instruments and vocals.
"We're big fans of the many character-processing tools available today, but we felt there was room for a more integrated solution that combines these types of effects with important additions like modulation and ambience processing," said Peter Gorges, co-founder of UJAM. "Instead of tediously building effect chains, Retrocraft lets you start with a complex effect combination you like and easily tweak it to make it your own. The element of surprise and fresh ideas really stands out here."
Retrocraft's character-shaping engine draws inspiration from classic analog equipment and playback devices, allowing users to explore everything from tape-style coloration and vinyl textures to megaphone effects, telephone speakers, and degraded radio sounds. Each processing stage can be combined and adjusted independently, making it possible to move from subtle enhancement to dramatic sonic transformation.
To help users get started quickly, Retrocraft includes 100 creative presets for instruments and vocals, along with 56 basic presets designed to showcase its individual effect algorithms. For those looking to explore new creative directions, the built-in “Surprise” function instantly generates fresh effect combinations that can serve as the starting point for entirely new sounds.

About UJAM
UJAM was co-founded by Hans Zimmer and Pharrell Williams, both musicians whose careers have been significantly supported by technology. The vision behind UJAM is to make technology even more accessible and encourage even more people to make music.
This vision is being realized by a team of virtual instrument pioneers who had previously developed legendary virtual instruments from Steinberg and Digidesign — from Steinberg Hypersonic to Virtual Guitarist, from Digidesign Xpand to Transfuser — and who finally want to realize their vision of shortening the path from the idea to the perfect track. More fun, better results, less complexity.
