Los Angeles, USA, January 15, 2026 — Slate Digital introduces ML-2A – the newest iteration of the brand’s pioneering line of modeling microphones. Powered by the award-winning Slate Digital Virtual Microphone System [VMS] plugin, this factory-matched pair of small-diaphragm cardioid condenser microphones unlocks Slate Digital’s market-leading library of vintage and modern modeled microphones, making it an invaluable addition to any studio or mobile recording setup. 

The ML-2A matched pairs are available now for $399 / €399 / £299 ex tax. ​ 

The Ultimate Modeling Pair
​Developed from the original ML-2, the pair of ML-2A mics delivers expanded dynamic range and refined sonic detail for accurate instrument capture in mono or stereo use. Precision designed with premium components, the microphones offer the ideal platform for all of your favorite VMS models with included -20dB pad and bass roll-off switches to handle high-SPL sources without compromise. Paired together with the included mounting bar, they are a flexible and versatile workhorse stereo set.

Once combined with the VMS plugin, ML-2A instantly becomes an indispensable library of classic, modern, and workhorse microphones that includes both favored studio essentials as well as more rare and unique models that can add unique character to your recordings. Zero-latency processing allows for easy auditioning of sounds while recording, as well as the ability to change the modeled mic later during the mixing process to find the perfect sound for each project.

VMS currently includes 27 microphone models and counting, including fundamentals such as the S-57 and S-421 dynamics, ribbon microphones such as the S-121, small-diaphragm condensers such as the S-451 and S-222, and large-diaphragm condensers such as the S-414 and S-67. These models can be mixed, matched, or blended as needed, to create distinct sounds for each source in your recording project, and you can even modify the proximity effect to further adjust the tone. Additional color and vintage saturation can also be added via the Virtual Preamps Collection for a completely in-the-box front-end recording experience.
