PRESS RELEASE: Shaping Sounds—An Evening with Robert Margouleff, Grammy-Winning Producer, Engineer, and Electronic Music Visionary
Open discussion with the legendary music figure to be moderated by Joe Schick at Applehead Recording in Woodstock, NY
Saugerties, NY, October 6, 2026 — On Sunday, October 18th, Grammy-winning music engineer, producer, and electronic music visionary Robert Margouleff will be featured in an open discussion alongside legendary studio designer and longtime friend John Storyk. Moderated by Joe Schick, former Bearsville Studio manager and music industry veteran, the event celebrates Margouleff’s newly released memoir, Shaping Sounds: Stevie Wonder, DEVO, The Synth Revolution and My Life Behind the Music. Margouleff will reflect on his extraordinary career, sharing personal stories and achievements spanning music, film, and technology through iconic music tracks and archival imagery.

Hosted at Applehead Recording Woodstock, the intimate gathering brings together music lovers, friends, and collaborators for an interactive conversation. Attendance is strictly limited to 50 guests, and RSVPs are required on a first-come, first-served basis. Following are details on the event and how to register:

In celebration of his new memoir, Margouleff will share stories of pushing the boundaries of art and technology while helping create some of the most influential music of our time in legendary spaces like Electric Lady Studios and the Record Plant LA. He will recount the history of TONTO, the mega-synthesizer he invented with his creative and producing partner Malcolm Cecil more than 55 years ago. Storyk—who designed Electric Lady and helped design TONTO—will also contribute to the discussion. The evening will feature rare, archival photos from Margouleff's book alongside high-fidelity audio playback of iconic master tracks, including Stevie Wonder classics and DEVO's "Whip It," experienced through Applehead Recording's state-of-the-art sound system.

About Robert Margouleff
Grammy Award-winning producer, engineer, and synthesizer pioneer Robert Margouleff is a central figure in electronic music history. As co-creator of the mega-synth TONTO (The Original New Timbral Orchestra) alongside his partner Malcolm Cecil, he helped revolutionize popular music in the 1970s.
Associate producing and engineering Stevie Wonder's classic albums, Music of My Mind, Talking Book, Innervisions, and Fulfillingness’ First Finale, Margouleff & Cecil earned a Grammy for Best Engineered Recording. His career also spans producing DEVO, Billy Preston, and David Sanborn; producing the film Ciao! Manhattan starring Warhol superstar Edie Sedgwick; and pioneering surround sound audio.
