PATCH & TWEAK Club Announces Capturing the Invisible: A Conversation with Robin Rimbaud (Scanner)
The three-part series offers an intimate look at the philosophy, experimentation, and sonic architecture behind modern modular synthesis
Copenhagen, March 16 , 2026–– PATCH & TWEAK Club has announced the upcoming release of Capturing the Invisible: A Conversation with Robin Rimbaud (also known as Scanner) on March 19th. This new three-part mini documentary explores the creative philosophy and modular synthesis practice of the influential British sound artist.
Recorded and conducted by synthesist, author, and PATCH & TWEAK Club founder Kim Bjørn, the interview offers an intimate studio conversation with Robin Rimbaud, better known as Scanner, whose work has spanned electronic music, contemporary art, film scoring, and experimental sound performance for more than three decades.
Filmed inside Scanner’s personal studio surrounded by modular synthesizers and electronic instruments, the documentary captures a thoughtful exploration of sound creation, experimentation, and the evolving role of modular systems in contemporary music and sonic art.
Across the three-part series, Rimbaud reflects on the ways modular synthesis enables artists to explore sound beyond traditional musical structures. Rather than following predetermined workflows, modular instruments invite experimentation and discovery, allowing artists to build unique signal pathways that continually reshape how sound behaves and evolves.
For Rimbaud, this process becomes less about controlling sound and more about collaborating with it — uncovering textures, rhythms, and sonic forms that often emerge through improvisation and curiosity. “Play is absolutely essential to all of our lives,” says Rimbaud. “If we focus too much on everything being work, it could be dangerously anti-creative.”
“The most interesting thing about modular synthesis isn’t the technology — it’s the mindset it encourages,” said Kim Bjørn, founder of PATCH & TWEAK and interviewer for the series. When you speak with artists like Robin Rimbaud, you realize that modular instruments invite a different way of thinking about sound, where exploration and curiosity are just as important as composition or sound. This conversation is really about that invisible process — the ideas, instincts, and discoveries that happen before the music even exists.”
The film also highlights the tactile and architectural beauty of modular systems themselves: dense patch networks, blinking modules, and carefully constructed signal chains that transform the instrument into a living environment for sound exploration.
The first chapter of Capturing the Invisible will be released publicly, offering viewers an introduction to Scanner’s creative process and philosophy. The second and third chapters will be available exclusively to PATCH & TWEAK Club members, providing deeper insight into the artistic and technical ideas behind his work.
The release continues PATCH & TWEAK Club’s mission to document and inspire the global synthesis community and share the stories of the artists shaping its evolution.
