BASSBOSS Powers Michigan’s Big Fam Fest with Full-Range, High-Definition Sound Across Every Stage

Big Fam Fest’s Director of Sound, Aaron Weidner, relied on BASSBOSS systems for consistent performance and reliable sound across the festival’s three-day run

Michigan, U.S., November 5, 2025 — Big Fam Fest is an annual celebration of music and art held at The Groves Of Michigan, an outdoor event and camping venue about an hour west of Detroit. This year’s three-day festival featured BASSBOSS sound systems across all three stages, delivering consistent, high-impact sound for a multi-genre lineup of bands, instrumentalists, electronic music producers, and DJs. For the production team, BASSBOSS brought reliability and simplicity to a demanding outdoor environment.

Each stage featured a BASSBOSS configuration tailored to its size and setting. The smallest stage paired two DV12 tops with six BB15 subwoofers, including two arranged in cardioid formation for controlled low-end coverage. The mid-sized Bayou Stage used two AT212 tops and a cardioid sub array of four ZV28 and four VS21 subwoofers, balancing high output with precise directionality.

The main stage deployed a larger system anchored by one Krakatoa per side, supported by one Makara and one Kraken per side — a configuration known as the Stackatoa. Six additional ZV28-Mk3 and two Makara-Mk3 subs expanded the system’s low-frequency reach, with select enclosures arranged in cardioid to manage bass dispersion. The result was a system that combined power and clarity across the entire field, delivering the full physical impact of the performance without overwhelming the space.

Overseeing audio production at Big Fam was Aaron Weidner, owner of Adubs Audio Services and a longtime BASSBOSS collaborator. Weidner’s partnership with the brand began over a decade ago, and the relationship, as well as the technology, has helped shape the festival’s audio each year. All BASSBOSS subwoofers are phase-aligned and backward compatible, allowing different models to integrate seamlessly across stages. “We can work with other members of the BASSBOSS community to build ever larger systems, or tailor setups to each stage, keeping the sound focused where it’s needed and minimizing disturbance in the surrounding area,” he said.

At many events, attendees gravitate toward certain stages for better sound, but Big Fam offered the same quality throughout. “Here, every stage sounds like a main stage,” said Weidner. “No one has to think about which system sounds better; they’re just immersed in the music. That’s what makes it special. It’s not about one big setup, it’s about the consistent quality of the experience people have, wherever they go.”

Beyond power and precision, Weidner highlighted the efficiency that BASSBOSS brings to large outdoor productions. “I can show up with an SUV and a small trailer carrying enough sound for 500 people,” he said. “Load-ins are faster, we use less fuel, and everything just works. BASSBOSS systems seem to turn every watt into usable sound, which means we can run smaller generators, save power, and still deliver a uniquely full-range experience.”

Weidner added that the built-in protection and limiting systems allow him to focus on the show instead of managing equipment. “The system takes care of itself,” Weidner said. “I don’t have to ride the volume or worry about distortion—it stays clean no matter how hard you push it.”

During the festival, BASSBOSS hosted a system demo where founder and designer David Lee shared his belief that a great sound system should help people feel the music instead of analyzing it. That idea resonated with Weidner. “When a system sets up easily and then sounds this natural, people stop thinking about the technology and just get lost in the music,” he said. “It’s not fatiguing; it’s engaging, and that is what makes BASSBOSS stand out.”
