ADDAC System Launches 2.0 Update of its Power Starvation Module

ADDAC300 Power Starvation Rev.02 'starves' power voltages, inciting unconventional effects and unruly sonic behavior

Lisbon, Portugal, February 24, 2025 — ADDAC System announces its latest Eurorack instrument for sonic expression, an update to its popular ADDAC300 Power Starvation module. The ADDAC300 Rev.02 provides an ideal way to 'power starve' other modules, meaning these other modules would receive less voltage than the standard ±12V supply.

Power starvation is among the first hacks that a synth DIY-er can learn. It is also one of the hacks that can generate some of the most interesting sonic effects in circuit bending.

'Tune' power supply to other modules
Users can run any module below ±200mA through the ADDAC300 Power Starvation module and independently tune its supply power. This will result in interesting effects - most prominently in analog modules such as filters, delays and mixers: they can either go silent, or start going berserk with the lack of current, making them cough, choke, or go spastic. In Eurorack, the result can be something like a safely induced sonic heart attack!

While the original version housed a simple circuit with pot working as a voltage divider, Rev.02 features an upgraded version that uses a DC to DC converter, receiving its input from the +12V power rail and outputs a bipolar 15V supply. This DC-DC converter also offers short circuit and overcurrent protection.

The ±15V lines are then sent through variable analog voltage regulators that can output a range of 2.5V to 13.5V. In other words, the module features a ±200mA PSU with variable voltage outputs.

** SAFETY DISCLAIMER: Use at your own risk **
While the ADDAC300 should be safe for use with any module, there may be specific modules where its use may not be advised. ADDAC System is not responsible for issues that may arise while using the ADDAC300 Power Starvation.

About ADDAC System
ADDAC develops advanced instruments for sonic expression. The company started back in 2009 with an ambition to explore the potential crossover between analog synthesizers and computers. Because its first creations sparked a lot of attention, ADDAC decided to work hard and put them in customers' hands. Today our product line is focused on a new breed of hybrid synths, that make use of the best of both the digital and analog worlds. We've grown to be able to reach thousands of enthusiastic clients, friends and collaborators. Always looking into conceptualizing and developing the most exquisite instruments, we hope you're able to join and share this passion with us.

Our solutions can be found in many personal studio throughout the world, owned by musicians in several planes of stardom. We especially appreciate seeing them being used in a very wide range of musical genres.
